In 1994, Los Cenzontles was grieving. Cecilia Rios, a friend to many members of Los Cenzontles, was raped and murdered in San Pablo, California. Eugene Rodriguez and Gilberto Gutierrez organized a songwriting workshop for the grief-stricken teens. Together they wrote El Corrido de Cecilia Rios, a ballad that shines light on the tragic event and honors Cecilia’s life.
